This year marks the 40th anniversary of Alex To's debut in the Hong Kong music industry, and on October 18 and 19, he will return to the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom, a venue he hasn't performed at in 10 years, for two exclusive concerts: 'Alex To Get Up World Tour Live in Hong Kong.' After performing in over 10 locations across Mainland China, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Taipei, and the Americas, the world tour is finally returning to Hong Kong after a two-year hiatus.
To complement his performance in Hong Kong, Alex recently released a new song with an 80s feel, 'Black Sun' (translated title), which he will perform live on stage. In addition, the ever-busy Alex will be holding two concerts in Reno and LA at the end of the month as a warm-up for his October shows in Hong Kong.
Admitting that he hasn't performed at the Hong Kong Coliseum in a decade, Alex considers it a venue that represents the pinnacle of success for Hong Kong singers, and so he feels honored to perform there each time. He eagerly shares, 'My last solo concert at the Coliseum was a decade ago, and with this year marking my 40th anniversary in the industry, it holds a special double meaning. I've already begun brainstorming with my production team to create a unique and distinct stage performance.' In preparation for his concert, Alex has also been undergoing rigorous physical training to ensure he's in top shape for his fans.
It's also been 10 years since Alex last performed in the US, and with limited time, he can only hold two concerts without any fan meetings. However, he hopes to find time to shop for some stylish outfits to wear during his performances. He jokes, 'Who knows, maybe I'll run into some fans while I'm out shopping, and we can say hi to each other. That would be a precious moment.'
Speaking of his recently released song, 'Black Sun,' Alex reveals the meaningful story behind its creation. 'From my debut in the 80s until now, I've always felt that music offers infinite possibilities. But at this stage, I feel a bit stagnant, and so 'Black Sun' is about finding light in the darkness. It has a positive message, and I particularly love its musicality because it brings me back to the 80s.'
The concept for the live version of 'Black Sun' is something Alex has long wanted to bring to life. In the video, Alex performs to an energetic 80s-style song, showcasing his stylish looks and laser visuals that create a stunning impact. He proudly shares, 'This song was added to the tour setlist last year, and this time, I mixed footage from our rehearsals and live concert performances to create a live version as a gift to my fans. The rehearsals were filmed without an audience, so there was less pressure and more freedom. Finally, the camera pans 360 degrees to show the live performance on stage, and with the cheers of the audience, it successfully captures the unique energy of a live performance.'
